GitHub Announces: GitHub Projects is Now Generally Available

Keeping development teams connect and moving in the same direction can be hard at times. We each get pulled into different areas of need and attention. To ease the planning and tracking of projects, GitHub has released GitHub Projects.

The new GitHub Projects connects your planning directly to the work your teams are doing in GitHub and flexibly adapts to whatever your team needs at any point. Built like a spreadsheet, project tables give you a live canvas to filter, sort, and group issues and pull requests. You can use it, or the accompanying project board, along with custom fields, to track a sprint, plan a feature, or manage a large-scale release.

Microsoft & Oracle Are Teaming Up Against Amazon Web Services

Interesting to see both Microsoft and Oracle are teaming up to make their clouds compatible with the other. This will certainly help both companies catch the leader, AWS.

Microsoft and Oracle have been working to make life easier for overlapping customers of the two cloud providers. It turns out the pair have been working together since 2019 on a project that linked Oracle’s cloud infrastructure to Microsoft’s Azure cloud infrastructure. Customers liked having the ability to use Azure’s data analytics tools in combination with their ERP software from Oracle, but moving data between the two platforms was time-consuming.

I think the real success measure will be if companies add any additional paid features from each platform.

Azure Cloud Platform Gets a New Database

As more of us are using multiple clouds to avoid vendor lock-in, it’s nice to see the interoperability between Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

The new service connects Oracle’s database service directly to the Azure cloud, eliminating custom work that previously would have been required.

In practice, that means an Oracle database user can move data easily to the Microsoft Azure cloud and have access to Microsoft tools such as Azure Synapse, which analyzes the data, the companies said.

The Oracle Database Service for Microsoft Azure streamlines the service and should make it less difficult to get started and operate.

Formula 1’s McLaren team is using A.I. for Smarter Decisions

I always knew Formula 1 was more about technology than the personalities. Teams are in a constant feedback loop looking for ways to improve and gain a slight edge over their competition with data.

Stephanie Cain writes in Fortune:

Racing at speeds of more than 200 miles per hour requires extremely quick decision-making, which is why McLaren uses Splunk, a software platform designed to analyze big data. James Hodge, Splunk’s chief strategy adviser, explains that Splunk streams data in real time from each race car’s 300 sensors, which monitor details including fuel levels, tire pressure, speed, and battery health. Those sensors generate more than a terabyte and a half of data each race weekend.

Over the course of a Formula 1 season, it tops out at 11.8 billion telemetry data points, derived from more than 440 car configurations and approximately 6,300 track laps.

Correlating this data and presenting meaningful information to teams can be a competitive advantage.

Intel to Expand Chip Production in Europe if Funding is not Unlocked

Why not build in Canada? The U.S. dollar can go further, we have an educated workforce and I suspect some supply chain issues can be largely reduced.

Last week, Intel said it would delay the groundbreaking ceremony of a new $20 billion facility in Ohio due to a lack of government funds. “I hate the idea of announcing a delay,” Gelsinger said on Tuesday, claiming Intel wanted to “go first and bigger in Ohio.” But he warned that without funding, Intel “would end up investing a lot more in Europe as a result.” The chipmaker already plans to spend about $35 billion to expand its production in the European Union, including a new $18 billion facility in Germany.
