VMware Zimbra 7 Collaboration Platform

The latest version of VMware Zimbra is out, with plenty of new features. It’s interesting to see these developments in the end-user space and how VMware’s EUC vision is developing.

According to the VMware Press Release:

VMware Zimbra 7 features new data sharing capabilities, expanded calendaring and search functionality, and upgraded management features for both IT and end-users. With this update, Zimbra is further optimized for both the casual and power-user, establishing a platform for a next-generation workspace within the VMware End-User Computing vision.

VMware’s End-User Computing vision seeks to free users and IT from more than two decades of complex, device-centric computing and deliver a more consumer-focused cloud experience for the enterprise. VMware Zimbra is among the largest business collaboration providers and is the largest on-premise open source collaboration suite in terms of paid mailboxes.

The key idea that stood out for me here is VMware allowing you to move away from device-centric computing and deliver a consumer-focused cloud experience. This may become the new standard if the vision and investment are communicated correctly. I also like how VMware is now offering access to BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 that should help attract Blackberry users.

Are you a Zimbra user? Is VMware becoming your go-to application vendor? Please let me know on Twitter, and thanks for reading.
