Kernel 6.0 Test Week, Contribute!

If you are keen on making Fedora the best operating system for Linux, then I encourage you to participate in Kernel 6.0 test week.

The kernel team is working on final integration for Linux kernel 6.0. This version was just recently released, and will arrive soon in Fedora. As a result, the Fedora kernel and QA teams have organized a test week from Sunday, Oct 16, 2022 to Sunday, Oct 23, 2022. Refer to the wiki page for links to the test images you’ll need to participate. Read below for details.

The more folks that participate, the stronger the final release of Fedora will be. Happy coding!

VMware Cloud on AWS now offers Automated Firmware Updates

Automated firmware updates bring us closer to a software defined data centre. The intelligence built into this feature removes some heavy lifting IT admins have to deal with.

The automated firmware update process has been enabled to expedite firmware updates within existing SDDC deployments. The process will add a new non-billable host to augment the cluster’s capacity.  Once this new host is online and healthy, the service will initiate the firmware update process by first placing the host into maintenance mode, all workloads will be vMotioned to other hosts in the cluster, and then the host will be rebooted. Once the host is back online and confirmed healthy to run workloads, the non-billable host is removed. This activity will be logged in the SDDC activity log under ” Firmware update.”

To help convince the team to use this, consider sharing savings you can expect to gain and share it with management. After a few cycles of firmware updates, prove the saving out with concrete numbers.

If you are a fan of AI, then I think Tesla’s second AI Day in Palo Alto will be interesting to watch. I think Tesla is one of the companies at the forefront of AI development.

On Friday, Musk will host Tesla’s second AI Day in Palo Alto, California, formerly the home to its global headquarters. The invitations that went out recently promised the latest developments in the company’s artificial intelligence efforts, including:
• Full Self-Driving, or FSD, the in-beta system that still needs an attentive human driver minding the wheel at all times;
• Tesla Bot, aka Optimus, the humanoid Musk has said will one day take over dangerous, repetitive and boring tasks from humans;
• and Dojo, the supercomputer Musk has said Tesla’s FSD team may utilize to improve the “brains” behind its driving systems, using the massive volume of video footage that the company’s cars capture.

The IT Crowd US Pilot

I am a big fan of the British show “The IT Crowd”. It’s a show about two IT nerds and their boss who support a large organization’s technology needs. Little did I know there was a North American pilot for the show produced in 2007.

Sharing on the blog in case others were interested, not sure whether I have the same feelings for the North American version, hence only the pilot was produced – guess that says it all.
