Your New Study Buddy Isn’t Human (But Smarter Than Most)
OpenAI has launched a new "study mode" in ChatGPT to help students retain and understand information better. Built with input from educators and learners, the feature offers interactive flashcards, personalized feedback, and tools to support long-term learning. Students can now track progress, revisit concepts, and engage in deeper comprehension through active learning techniques.

Today, we’re introducing study mode in ChatGPT—a learning experience designed to help students study more effectively. It’s available to free and paid users who have access to GPT-4, including in our mobile apps. Study mode gives students a focused experience, with tools that support learning and understanding—like the ability to highlight and ask questions about specific parts of a document, stay in the flow with focused read and quiz experiences, and track progress through a subject over time.
Although still in early development, OpenAI plans to expand study mode with testing features and educator tools.
